The lure of the snowfields, great outdoors and a thriving local economy proved too strong for new Economic Development Team Leader Bernd Neubauer, who has joined the AlburyCity team.

A business executive with more than 20 years experience at a national and international level, Bernd has relocated from Sydney to head AlburyCity's Economic Development Team under the guidance of Director Economic Development and Tourism, Tracey Squire.

A qualified Chartered Accountant, Bernd's impressive resume has seen him work in London, Germany, Dubai, and Australia in the banking, finance and investment sectors.

Bernd says it's in regional Australia where he believes economic development leadership and strategies can have the biggest impact on the nation's economic growth.

Bernd says his first priority in his new role is to better understand the economic heartbeat of the Albury region and the key drivers of success in the various industry clusters as well as any impediments to growth.

He says he'll be focussing on investment attraction; leveraging opportunities from the digital economy as well as assisting established businesses grow their markets regionally, nationally and internationally.

"There are emerging industries particularly in the areas of software development and creative industries that have an opportunity to grow in Albury and service a national market. The digital economy also provides opportunities for micro and online businesses to establish themselves here and deliver products globally," Bernd said.

A keen snowboarder, Bernd says he's looking forward to the best snow conditions in decades, saying the close proximity of the Victorian Alps was among the attractions of relocating to Albury.
