Art Gallery construction underway

06 March 2014

Construction has officially begun on the $10.5M Albury Regional Art Gallery redevelopment.

Zauner Construction has moved on-site and will begin work on the region’s biggest cultural development which is scheduled to be opened to the public in June 2015.

Initial work will focus on the northern section of the current building. Council will also complete an archaeological survey of the current site as part of the works program.

AlburyCity Mayor Kevin Mack said the project had reached a major milestone with Zauner Construction being given possession of the site at the beginning of this week.

“The new art gallery is going to be a huge cultural attraction for the region and it’s great to see work getting underway. We expect the new gallery to host international exhibitions in a world-class facility. The long-term benefits for tourism, employment and our economy will be enormous.”

"Initial estimates indicate that the new gallery would generate an additional 30,000 out of town visitors annually, will inject an extra $3.8M in tourism spend across the region and boost the local economy by $6.1M.”

“It’s a great outcome and the gallery will prove to be a huge asset to our city.”
