The new reuse centre at Albury’s Waste Management Centre will be an additional initiative helping to reduce the amount of usable goods going to landfill.
The centre will collect usable furniture, toys and appliances that would have normally ended up in landfill and make them available to local residents for free.

The opening of the new centre coincides with the first day of National Recycling Week (11 – 17 November) a national campaign that promotes the benefits and importance of recycling.

To celebrate the week, Council and its campaign partners Halve Waste have planned a program of activities to help local residents embrace the recycling message.

“They say that one man’s trash is another man’s treasure. With our new reuse centre people will be able to drop-off and take for free usable, good quality household items that otherwise would have gone to landfill,” AlburyCity Team Leader of Waste Management Andrea Baldwin said.

“It will operate like an Op-Shop and will keep furniture out of landfill and give it a good home.”

Council will also offer an exclusive behind-the-scenes tour of the Waste Management Centre. The tour will offer rare insight into the everyday operations of the Waste Management Centre, while educating residents how they can better recycle at home.

“We receive around 200,000 tonnes of waste each year. It’s a huge operation and this is a great way to see the day to day operation of the waste management centre.”

“National Recycling Week is a great opportunity for residents to renew their commitment to recycling and find out how they can introduce small changes around their home and business that make a huge impact on our environment.”
