Fire extinguishers and smoke detectors
Fire extinguishers and smoke detectors can now be separated and recycled as part of the household problem waste service available as part of the Albury Recycling Centre.
Fire extinguishers, like gas bottles, are made from steel which is 100% recyclable, and can be recycled for scrap metal.
Smoke Detectors contain batteries and in some cases harmful content which may react if it comes into contact with other materials. Place both your fire extinguisher and smoke detector in the appropriately marked container for further recycling.
For more information on Household Smoke Detectors visit the NSW EPA website.
Applicable Fees & Charges
AlburyCity residents are not charged a fee at the Albury Recycling Centre for disposing of fire extinguishers and smoke detectors. To qualify for these fee concessions, the waste must:
- not be commercial waste generated from any business or commercial activities
It is also a condition of free acceptance that recyclable materials be separated and placed in the supplied recycling areas. Sorting your load to separate general rubbish and recyclables is recommended.
